SPG provides countless shared resources to its staff and community partners. Provided below are some of the more popular behavior-related resources that have been beneficial for parents and providers. Continue to check back frequently for new or updated resources.


Autism Focused Intervention Resources & Modules is an extension of the National Professional Development Center (NPDC) on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), both of which promote the used of evidence-based practices (EBPs) for children and youth with ASD, birth to 22 years of age. AFIRM offers free and easy to access modules designed to help you learn the step-by-step process of planning for, using, and monitoring an EBP. Topics include but are not limited to Antecedent-based Intervention, Discrete Trial Training (DTT), Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS), Prompting strategies, Reinforcement strategies, Social Skills Training, and Visual supports.


Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence serves to disseminate information on research, resources, and trends to address autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The center offers training, technical assistance, consultation, and resources to educational agencies, programs, practitioners, and families working to foster individual learning and growth.


Autism Internet Modules is an online tool designed to provide high-quality information and professional development for anyone who supports, instructors, works with, or lives with someone with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Modules offered through this website are available at no cost. Topics include but are not limited to Assessment for Identification, Cognitive Differences, Comprehensive Program Planning for Individuals with ASD, Differential Reinforcement, Pivotal Response Training (PRT), Sensory Differences, Speech Generating Devices (SGD), The Incredible 5-Point Scales, and many more.


Autism Speaks is the largest autism science and advocacy organization in the US, which is dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism, as well as advocating for the needs individuals with autism and their families. This nonprofit was founded by Bob and Suzanne Wright, grandparents of a child with autism, in 2005, with financial support from their friend Bernie Marcus. Autism Speaks offers a wealth of on-line information, including the “100 Day Kit” for families to make the best possible use of the 100 days following their child’s diagnosis of autism.


The Positive Environments, Network of Trainers is a California Positive Behavior Initiative designed to provide information and resources for educators striving to achieve high educational outcomes through the use of proactive positive strategies. Evidence-based positive practices and helpful information is disseminated statewide through this website. PENT was co-founded by Diana Browning Wright and Deborah Holt, in a joint effort between the Diagnostic Center, Southern California (DCSC) and the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA).


The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) is a nonprofit corporation established in 1998 to meet professional credentialing needs for BCBAs, BCaBAs and RBTs.


Verbal Behavior

Verbal Behavior (VB) is a method of intervention that focuses on developing functional communication skills across the verbal operants of mand (requesting), tact (labeling), echoics (vocal imitation) and intraverbal (conversational skills). VB is built on the concept that word meanings are found in their functions. To teach a child with language delays the meaning of a word, the function of the word is taught first. For example, to teach ‘spoon,’ a child must first learn what to do with a spoon.

The Verbal Behavior learning process works as follows: a child says spoon when she wants a spoon. When she is given a spoon, her language is reinforced through receiving the spoon. She is likely to repeat this action because it was positively reinforced. In this way, the child is taught to use language in a functional way.
