The demand for speech-language pathologists (SLPs) is on the rise due to the ongoing increase in referrals, caseload sizes and in the complexity of communication impairments. The speech-language pathologist shortage is especially apparent in the school setting. One of the ways that the SLP shortage can be addressed is through the appropriate use of speech-language pathology assistants (SLPAs).
