Balanced Literacy Instruction for Students who use AAC and have Complex Communication Needs *

This course describes best practices in balanced literacy instruction involving reading, writing, phonological awareness and individual reading for those who are at emergent and early conventional levels. Bring your favorite storybook to class and we’ll get to work! Participants will understand the 4 Blocks Literacy Framework as modified by Karen Erickson and David Koppenhaver, leave with literacy instruction ideas in the areas of reading, writing and phonological awareness for students who use AAC and learn how to implement core and fringe vocabulary within the 4 blocks model.
