Hope Closet Food Drive
Donate to the Luther Burbank High School’s Hope Closet, established by SPG SLP, Lisa Ahn. The Hope Closet provides basic necessities like clothes, shoes, non-perishable food items, school supplies, and hygiene products to students in need and their families. The generosity of school staff and the community help sustain this program, as well as the assistance of Luther Burbank’s students with disabilities, who help in organizing and delivering donated items under the supervision of the speech-language pathologist.
Bring your healthy, non-perishable food items to the Hope Closet donations bin in the Walnut Creek office, or turn in to your clinical supervisor. Donations will also be accepted at the SPG Company Party on November 16th.
Do you have a worthy non-profit cause in need of monetary, material, or service support? Contact Jane Krider (email@example.com) for more information on how to apply for philanthropic assistance through SPG:CSI or SPG.
The Speech Pathology Group: Children’s Services International
SPG: Children’s Services International, a 501c3 nonprofit, has joined in partnership with some wonderful charitable organizations benefiting children. In July, SPG SLPs Alejandra Gil and Maret Wilson Walker volunteered with SPG:CSI partner, Children of Mexico International (COMI).
Alejandra worked in Guadalajara for two week-long COMI missions. The first, serving residents of an orphanage, most of whom have Cerebral Palsy and are non-verbal and many of whom have feeding as well as communication needs. Maret joined Alejandra and COMI for the second mission, which focused on multi-disciplinary (psych, PT, speech) hippotherapy sessions. Parent training on language stimulation and take-home communication and behavior support visuals were provided, courtesy of SPG:CSI. COMI volunteers also visited a women’s convalescent home for some cut throat Lotería and prizes, donated by SPG:CSI. Great work was done, and there was also plenty of time for fun!
COMI missions are open to anyone – SLPs, RBTs, BCBAs, students, anyone willing to offer themselves to this worthy cause. Please contact Maret (firstname.lastname@example.org), if you are interested in volunteering with COMI next summer or sometime in the future.
