Presented by Barbara J. Moore, Ed.D. CCC-SLP (3 hrs)
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) sets forth a clear and consistent framework to prepare all students to be college and career ready. Students with Significant Cognitive and Communication Disabilities are included in the CCSS. This session will describe the advancements in the CCSS that will challenge educators and specialists to consider how to move beyond functional and developmental goals to programs that truly advance educational outcomes for these students. For speech-language pathologists in schools, the CCSS provides an opportunity to work collaboratively with fellow educators to ensure that students with disabilities access these standards. This session will identify key components of the CCSS and focus the audience on the many opportunities for SLPs to meet the challenges through language development, communicative competence and universal access.
