Presented by Jennifer Taps Richard, M.A., CCC-SLP (6 hrs)
This session presents an innovative approach for addressing the needs of children with mild articulation disorders in the public school setting. In 2004, San Diego Unified School District shifted its services to a general education service delivery model (the Speech Improvement Class) for these students. The session features evidence-based intervention practices and videos to demonstrate these research principles, including motor learning theory, current methodologies for treating the /r/ sound and homework. Home practice is required for all children participating in the Speech Improvement Class to facilitate generalization to all speaking contexts.
