Participants will learn important facts about bilingualism and second language acquisition. How to assess ELL students when there is an absence of tests in the student’s primary language will be discussed. Dynamic assessment and language sampling analysis will be demonstrated as well as clear rules for differentiating a language difference from a disorder. Classroom teaching strategies that enhance second language acquisition and intervention strategies which bridge oral and written language will be displayed through the use of case studies. Recommendations for parents and families will be provided.
