This presentation will provide a framework for evidenced-based AAC intervention strategies. Both push-in and pull-out models will be discussed. Ideas for AAC social language groups will be shared. Participants will receive access to current information, handouts, and templates. Communication partner training for staff, families, and peers will be highlighted with step-by-step instructions of engaging others into the AAC world. Participants will have hands on experience with Aided Language Stimulation (modeling).Video examples students using AAC will be presented, with all abilities represented, from beginner to advanced, low tech to high tech.
1. Identify steps for training communication partners.
2. Describe appropriate therapy strategies to support AAC “ownership”.
3. Gain knowledge in implementing a communication participation plan to support students using AAC in the classroom.
4. Name four IEP goals appropriate for AAC development.
